Colorful Ixchel MaidenLed by Beth Townsend, Healing Traditions guides people of all ages to experience healing in body and spirit. Our services are a blend of more than 35 years of experience and training in Native American, Mayan, and Yoruba traditions as well as various therapies. Beth is an advanced practitioner of the The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® & Spiritual Healing and is supported by her lifelong learning across cultures and practices. In 2016, she also became the fifth person formally trained as an advanced instructor of the techniques.

Services are offered in Grand Rapids, with phone consultations also available for some services. Healing Traditions also offers teaching and workshops in West Michigan and beyond. View our upcoming schedule to learn more, or contact Beth Townsend to learn about custom retreats or workshops.

What to Expect

If you are seeking relief from pain or deeper understanding of a physical symptom, our first session will include an assessment and recommendations for a path of treatment. Read about the Healing Traditions approach to learn more about what to expect at your first session and our ongoing work together.

Treatment plans often blend traditions and techniques based on each client’s needs. If you are interested in a specific tradition or technique, please share that when you request an appointment.

All services are grounded in Western science and guided by spirit. You may wish to read Healing Traditions’ guiding principles to see how this work is a bridge between traditions and practices, or learn about the formal training and personal journey that ground this work.

A Special Note for Women
Women and their needs, cycles, and seasons of life are a special focus of Healing Traditions. It is an honor to support families by nurturing the women who care for them. I love opportunities to work with women individually, in small groups, or in workshops. I have worked in sessions with mothers and daughters to prepare for the transition into puberty, helped women shift their bodies and habits to prevent painful periods, supported couples facing fertility struggles, massaged moms-to-be (and their babies), and much more.

What is spiritual healing?

Modern medicine is beginning to understand the healing wisdom of ancient cultures. The link between many physical illnesses is connected with unresolved emotional stress and distress. Healing Traditions can deepen your connection to this wisdom through teaching and healing techniques such as prayer, herbal bathing, and incense. Spiritual healing complements the other services that Healing Traditions provides. The journey can be tailored to your needs and comfort level.

Beth & Rosita Arvigo at Pregnancy TrainingArvigo Spiritual Healing practitioners have completed one or both of the Arvigo Institute classes in Maya Spiritual Healing with Dr. Arvigo who studied more than thirty years with various traditional healers in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. These timeless and gentle methods assist with healing the emotional and spiritual residue of traumatic life events. These may include fright (Susto), grief (Pesar), sadness (Tristessa), chronic anger (Courage) and envy (Invidia).

All Arvigo Spiritual Healing Practitioners operate under their scope of practice and licensing as health care professionals or, if not health care professionals, under the limits of the Arvigo Institute classes presented by Dr. Arvigo which do not address mental health diagnosis, psychotherapy, counseling, or medication. Arvigo Spiritual Healing Practitioners who are also licensed mental health professionals may employ those treatments in their work with clients under the scope of their professional licensing and the decision of whether or not to do so is the responsibility of the individual practitioner.
